Don't Use The Same Password For Every Website
This is the most common problem which many of us simply ignores. Although their is a very valid reason that you can’t remember different passwords for each and every website especially if you are linked with 20 or 30+ websites. But just think for a while that if a hacker hacks any one of your accounts password, the rest of your online information is at risk. Now you know what we talking About!!!
Are You Asking Me To Make 100 Passwords?
Yes …. but you don't need to remember 100 passwords when you have 1 rule set for generating them. Means before making a password, make a general rule of Thumb that how your all passwords will be alike. Its really very simple and easy technique to follow (which you will see below)
Let's See How To Build A Super Strong Password
To generate unique passwords, first make a base of a password. Once you have a base password, then you can add few letters in it to have a unique password for each and every website on Internet. Don't panic or confuse yourself, just relax and read the rest of the article and see how quickly you can make unique and strong passwords for yourself.
Make A Generalized Rule -- Pick Up A Sentence And Make A Base Password
1. Lets start by picking up a phrase / sentence which you like a lot for e.g Pick up a song : Heal The World Make It Better Place
2. Now choose the first letter of each word from that sentence and combine it together. Using this technique, if I select the first character of each word of Heal The World Make It Better Place, it will become : htwmibp
3. You can also replace some words from your sentence with the letters for example:
For the word "are", use "r"
For the word "and", use "&"
For the word "at", use "@"
For the word "the", use "d"
For the word "be", use "b"
For the word "for", use 4
For the word "nothing", use 0 (zero)
For the word "to", use 2
For the word "you" use "u"
For the word "we", use "v"
For any numbers, type the number
Now, if we follow this technique and try to make our base password from Heal The World Make It Better Place, it will become : hdwmibp
Note: We picked the first characters of each word from the sentence but replaced THE with d in my password.
4. Change Lower Case Into Upper Case
Randomly change any 3 or 4 letters of your password into the upper case. Now my password has become HdWmibP
5. Add Or Replace Some Letters With The Special Symbols
Note: It's highly recommended to add special symbols in your passwords, since it makes your password very difficult for hackers to crack.
Some online services doesn’t allow the use of special symbols. So this depends on the service which you are using and their password policy. However, it’s good to replace some letters with the special symbols for example :
For the letter "a", use "@"
For the letter "s", use "quot;
For the letter "c", use "("
For the letter "v", use "^" (upside down V)
If you don’t want to replace the letters, than add 2 or 3 special symbols from below in your password.
! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; & = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~
After following this technique, after adding few special symbols in the password and now it looks something like this : H%dWmib#P (Oh wow.. looking good)
5. Add Or Replace Some Letters With The Special Symbols
It’s always a good thing to add numbers in the password as well to give some strength to it. To add the numbers, don’t use a combination, sequential or repeating numbers. Instead use those numbers which you can remember because of some special event, for example your father / mother birth year.
Note: Use your GF’s or wife’s birth year which you will never forget or her age which remains constant for years lolz
You can also replace some letters with the Numbers for example :
For the letter "E", use "3"
For the letters "i or I", use "1"
For the letter "S", use "5"
For the letter "g", use "9"
For the letter "o", use "0"
Finally my base password is ready which has become : H%dWm1b#9P
To many of you this password may looks difficult to memorize, but if you keep in mind your base line (It was Heal The World Make It Better Place) and also remember above steps, and than look at this password, doesn't it look quite familiar. These are the best practices which you can follow to make a super strong password and it's quite easy to memorize as well, if you just remember above steps.
How To Use Different Passwords For Different Websites
You would have thought that the story is over but it’s not. You may have the strongest password in your hand, but as recommended in the beginning of the article that never use same password for every website. But that doesn’t mean that you have to go through all the steps again to create a password. No Ofcourse not, instead to create a new password, you just have to add 2 or 3 letters in your base line password (which was created above) for every website and you have a new password for each and every website on Internet.
Note: Don't get confused, have some patience and read below how to make your life more simple, it's easy.
Let's say you want to make a password for your Gmail, you can add gm or GL or gMl (whatever combination you like) anywhere in the base password and your new password for Gmail will be ready.
In our case, the base passwords was : H%dWm1b#9P, after following this technique, our password for Gmail has become : H%dWmgMl1b#9P
Now, if you want to make a password for any other website for e.g. Hotmail, you can use hTl or hM or any short code which you can remember and add it exactly the same place where you added the other codes, For example: H%dWmhTl1b#9P
There are two things which are very necessary to remember while making different passwords for each website.
1. When you are making a code for any website, follow the same standard for each and every website. For e.g we made a 3 digit code for Gmail which is gMl and have made the middle character Capital. Now, whenever we have to make a code for any website, we should follow the same practice so that it will help us to memorize it easily. When we made a short code for Hotmail, we used the same standard which wasfollowed for Gmail and it become hTl.
2. Make sure you add the codes of these websites at the same place in your base password for each website. Means, in our base password, we added the code of Gmail (gMl) after m (H%dWmgMl1b#9P) and for Hotmail (hTl) we added the code exactly after m (H%dWmhTl1b#9P)
By following this practice, we have different passwords for each website on Internet and it will be easy for us to remember as well.
Last Words
By following above steps, we came up with such a strong password with the combination of letters, numbers and symbols which surely is hard to crack for any 1 and it’s easy to remember as well because we know the phrase line we used to create the password in the beginning (which was Heal The World Make It Better Place).
At first glance you may think that how the heck you will remember it, but the trick to remember it is by memorizing the phrase / sentence. Once you know that, you then know what numbers and symbols you used to make your password strong.
If you can't remember your password, then write it down and put the paper in your wallet (don’t stick it at your computer desk or monitor screen) But just write the sentence or a hint that will help you remember your sentence.(which in my case was Heal The World Make It Better Place).
Hope this article would be helpful to make a super strong passwords which are easy to remember as well.
